Magic

It is when things are kind of rough that you find the most interesting ways to amuse yourself. I dug out my old Magic cards and taught Spidey how to play a week or so ago. We’ve been having a blast with it just using the cards (I’ve got a lot) that I have. I haven’t really felt any temptation to buy new cards or anything like I did back in the day, we’ve just been having a good time with the old stuff from the game closet. Still though, Spidey had to rub in the fact that one deck I built, judging by the sets and state of the cards is 13 years old.

*grumble*

Still, a good reason not to totally dismiss old games, sometimes they make you love them all over again.

convo

[ Amused Mood: Amused ]
"How do you manage?"

"I’m different then you you, I’m not a pack or herd."

"WHAT?!"

"Wolves, they are pack, so are the cats, I’m not one of them."

He sips his coffee, I wait.

"What the hell are you then?"

I smile and scratch the beard that never goes away, "Bear, be glad it is winter."

I sip my coffee and smile at him showing the fangs that never go away, "It takes a lot of your kind to take us down, so I would suggest this is the shut up and listen part of the night. I’ll get to the rest of the dark nasties of the world here in a bit. Eat your pie, it is great here."

Katie shows up with slices like a goddess, which she was, 2000 years ago. Bakery has become a factory, she has no place of worship any more. We share a smile and she goes to the next customer. I’ll worship at the altar of pie here in a bit, but this young were needs some training.

I continued, "Humans always wanted magic. They had it all along; first iron, then the printing press, atoms, air to ground missles. They pushed us to the corners through numbers and science. There is your magic young packling. The magic of the periodic table."

The kid looks sick, I have to, and I know it is a pun, but a funny one, throw him a bone.

"We still live, just lay low son." I give my Papa Bear smile to Katie she scratches my chin, walks off and I can’t help but growl, the truckers in the next booth go silent. I look over at them and nod.

The kid looks at me and gets almost savvy, "So just a werebear?"

I take a bite of pie, I love this little diner; "No sonny, the first. The first bear that thought he’d like to walk like a human."

I tear into my pie, kids, they just don’t really understand pie after a certain age.

suns

[ Neutral Mood: Neutral ]
The Fading Suns game is going great. I am really suprised at how the team has taken to the world and the rule set. People seem to be seriously investing in their characters, which is something I always enjoy. Plots are thick on the ground and agendas are all over the place. I’m looking forward to seeing where the game goes from here. One of the most fun parts of the game for me lately is making goofy little sound tracks and audio effects to use in the game, I’m really looking forward to my air raid siren effect.

gifts

Spidey gave me the most awesome collection of birfday gifts ever. First off she gave me the new main book edition of Mongoose publishing Traveller. A book I have coveted for a bit. It is as great as I imagined. She also snagged ‘Taint of Madness’ by Chaosium because she didn’t see it on the Call of Cthulhu shelf and she is made of wonderful. Then, finally she got me a Dawn of the Dead original multi-disk anniversary Romero DVD collection.

It is so gorgeous it makes me cry and want to gnaw skulls just thinking about it. I have a wonderful woman in my life.

Up for review

[ Happy Mood: Happy ]
I have a stack of things for review. First up is Apocalypse Prevention, inc. Followed by Bounty Head Bebop (This one I dread because it is very much an attempt at a rip off of IP), then I am going to tear into Modern 20 and all the supplements I got sent (although probably more into the core system than anything else).

After that me and my friend Craig wil check out and review of an on the cheap fantasy battle system.

Keep your eyes open.

Noir

You find yourself in a cold field standing over a rapidly cooling body. The gun feels almost as uncomfortable in your hand as the can of gas in the trunk of your car is about to. Still burning is the only way, he has a lot of tatoos and you already used the hammer to knock all the teeth out. You taught this son of a bitch a lesson and set your house in order. Her body is next. You think, maybe the lake, and smile. The gun slides in your pocket soft and gentle.

strong feelings

Things I have excessive feelings about that are probably out of scale for what they are.

between the stars

Fading Suns won. We had a card game game night last night and played a lot of Grave Diggers from Outer Space. We’ve got a Brother Battle and an Guilder Engineer on deck, others want to read the rules before coming up with characters. Once they do I will introduce the ship and the first mission.

After that we are going to do a board game type night. I’ll take pictures to share with all you all. Craig and I lamented the loss of HorrorClix but came to a realization. Soon everyone will be able to buy the game for cheap and we can ALL go to town with it. So an upside to a suck situation. Same with Pirates! Another fun game WizKKids made.
