Team Cthulhu

The bowling shirts arrived today and they are made of pure woven awesome. The dice on the right collar really set it off. I went with this model with ‘Team Cthulhu embroidered on the left chest (over the pocket) and a pair of dice on the right collar. They were worth every penny. One problem though, I ordered one shirt short.

So now I am in a weird situation. I bought all these shirts with my own money not expecting a lot of return, but the shirts are kind of pricey. $40 a pop. I know that some of the dudes will pay me back and am cool with some of the dudes not. This was all completely my idea after all and I was willing to just cover the cost of all the shirts really. Otherwise I wouldn’t have spent the money.

So now the problem. Do I buy the shirt for one of the Team that I missed, or let it ride and say hey, buy your own. I mean I did spend over $300 clams on those shirts. Ugh, it’s an odd and akward situation.

We can be Heroes just for one weekend

As I mentioned elsewhere on the bboards I was pretty much stuck at home this weekend doing workstuff. (Not that I minded really, it was kind of interesting, if time consuming stuff). So in the intermittent time when I wasn’t cooking and eating way to much dead animal I was working my way through the season one box set of Heroes. I’ve got to say watching them upsampled to near HD quality has been a treat. I’d forgotten some of the quiet nuances to the series, there are a lot of subtle connections between the episdoes and the characters that I had missed the first time around. I’m about at the 2/3rds mark and given that I’m going to be night owling it for the rest of the week on the project I’m on I should be done with the show in the next few days.

Oh box DVD sets of TV shows…how did I live with out you?

Oh and Mike Nelson from MST3K already has a RiffTrax on episodes 1 and 2.

more rpg creation stuff

It has been interesting to put my mind into ‘game creation mode’. It’s been about a year since I have ran a game (maybe a little over) and it took a little to kick the gears into action. Once they started turning though, it was go time.

Mission one starts with an easy home reclamation project and some dire news from Undermountain. I think it will really get the ball rolling. Writing up the initial scenario was fun (and done in about two hours after about a day and a half of mulling the idea over). I still suck at drawing maps though.

I found a cheap source for figs and will be able to really 3d up the game more then I usually do, so its’ about go time for some kickin’ D&D action.

Skullduggery!

I’m running a campaign based in Waterdeep (Dungeons and Dragons – Forgotten Realms) where-in the characters are thieves or damn close to (bards and priests of Mask, god of thieves) and it is shaping up to be fun, fun, fun.

The characters can go on thieving ‘missions’ above ground, wander randomly and get into trouble in the city or hit Undermountain and dungeon delve. There is a lot of fun and a lot of old school D&D action here with modern sensebilities. Here is the start I projected…

—————————————-

Start

As a group you’ve been running around together in Waterdeep for a little over a year. Meeting through various ways you discovered…like minded principles and have taking to working together as a group or in teams to achieve your goals where possible. As the months progressed, especially during the lean times of winter the gang really had to lean on one another. There were threats of eviction here or the brief capture by the Watch for one of you at one point, things were looking grim.

But then a big score, a crafty dockside warehouse hit and a good deal with a local fence netted the group a good deal of money and a few interesting items. The future looks bright and thoughts of setting up a team ‘sanctuary’ of sorts starts to sound like a good idea. After the brief earthquake that shakes the city a few of you have some other ideas as well.

It’s time to move, spring is flowering and the caravans are rolling. The time for thievery is now; how far you want to take it is your choice.

Warren E.

It is quotes like the one bellow that keep me reading Warren Ellis.

“No, no, we need umpty million quid to look for fucking great holes, why on earth would we want to cure cancer, the common cold or Frenchness?”

Los Manos!

So, I’ve been developing my alternate persona/future halloween costume of Los Manos. I’ve finally found a luchador mask I like and ordered it. Now I am going to have to go get fitted for a three piece suit. After that I’m going to have to buy some dress leather gloves (I am Los Manos after all) and some shoes to go with the suit.

But oooooh baby, when I get all that together I am going to look AWESOME!

Game Night 6

Yeeeee haaaaw! I am Slim Pickens riding the A-bomb! It’s game night 6! (Now with pictures!)

———————————————–

Game night 6 was a crowded affair. We had a new face (wha’sup Ed), the KC crew and the locals, Team Cthulhu is growing mighty. There was enough sandwich and snack stuff on hand to feed a small army (in light of the heat, etc. the sandwich bar seemed to be the way to go). Libations were prepared and the game area made ready.

The KC crew, the host and I had to watch the train wreck which was the SciFi channel movie ‘Inferno’ before we could start. It was almost hypnotic in its’ badness. Once that was over, as usual we decided to open up with a round or two of Munchkin to get into the mindset.

When you use all the expansions you have a ridiculous amount of cards.

We played two rounds both won by this guy.

The straight up gangsta known as the M.I.T.C.H.

For a change up we decided to spend the rest of the night role play gaming instead of doing the board/card thing. (We’re just going to have to flat out say "this is a HorrorClix only night" to make HorrorClix happen.) With Craig running Year of the Zombie using the D20 Modern rule set. We’ve played this before and I have to say I really like what the YotZ folks are up to. D20 modern is a decent system as well I think and suits the game.

We drew random characters from a pile.

And discovered we were all special forces guys being sent on a mission into the Central American jungles to bag a terrorist leader and rescue some hostages. Helicopter sounds and Predator references followed. I was one of the co-leaders of the group (Cory was the main guy) and the groups’ doctor. After being shot down about a half a mile from where our dust off area was supposed to be we had to do some re-thinking about how we were going to approach the enemy stronghold and meet our mission objectives.

Fortunately we had some electronic intel and photos that helped us with some hard decisions.

Our host/tormentor made the action fast and furious when we hit the camp.

And I managed to take the leader down in the tunnels beneath the compound with a shot to the weapon hand (and a natural 20 roll, WOOT!). About this time the zombies showed up and things got REALLY tricky, terrorists on one side and the undead on the other.

About this time some of the crew needed to take off and we had to break the action. Did we find the hostages, will the undead devour us all, can we squeeze even more people into a basement? Check back for the next…

Game Night!
