MntlWard is our grand prize Austin picture quiz winner, despite never having been here. For his prize, I’ll be sending him "Beliel Rose<\/a>" by Derek J. Goodman<\/a>, which will give him something fun to read over the holidays.<\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: Texas School for the Deaf<\/a> – It’s an Austin tradition to drive past here and honk.<\/p>\n

\nWinning answer: Austin River
\nWhere it actually is: Hancock Golf Course<\/a> – This is a nice place to picnic, but you run the risk of getting brained with a golfball.<\/p>\n

\nWinning answer: Austin’s largest tree
\nWhere it actually is: View downtown from third floor of library.<\/a> – I lived in Austin for years before I found out where the power outlets were in the library, so I could only do laptop work for as long as the battery lasted (they’re all on the other sides of the concrete pillars).<\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: Shoal Creek spring<\/a> – the spring seeps out of the cliff, flooding the sidewalk through the park. Or maybe it’s just runoff from the hospital parking lot.<\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: Austin Bridge<\/a> – In the steetview link the bridge is just out of sight around the corner.<\/p>\n

\ngallery of anarchist art<\/a> – Nothing says intellectual freedom like wheatpastings with poetry about eating vegan.<\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: Some house<\/a> – I couldn’t find this one on google streetview, but it ought to be around in this area. I worry that it was actually a magic door that appears once a century and I missed my opportunity to go through to a land of magic and adventure. Or alternately to go through and steal a VCR.<\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: East Side aquaduct<\/a> – It’s a steep ramp that leads to a river of mud and puddles. <\/p>\n

\nWhere it actually is: Eastside fence<\/a> – I couldn’t find this one on streetview either. I worry that all the cakes are gone.<\/p>\n
