Vimy Memorial

[  Mood: Cool ]
[  Currently: Reading People Magazine’s American Idol Tribute ]
So last night the husband unit and I went to the National War Memorial to participate in the Vimy Vigil.

This event was organized by Canadian actor R. H. Thomson, a national treasure. It saw the projecting of the names of the 3,598 Canadians who died at Vimy Ridge in WWI onto the Memorial. Hundreds of people were there. Many parents brought their children and tried to explain what Vimy meant to Canada. It was very powerful and brought me to tears. They also interspearsed the names with photos of some of the men. As I said to the husband unit, "they were all so young."

What made it all so bittersweet was that six more Canadian soldiers died Sunday in Afghanistan.

For more info the vigil try here and here.
