Falco Proudfoot of the Shire
\nhad a bounder for a sire
\nand his singing was more cheerful
\neven than a toasty fire.<\/p>\n

In a happy hobbit hole
\nor under shady Mirkwood bole
\nhe could give an ear an earful
\nto a Woodman or a troll.<\/p>\n

Falco\u2019s fiddle broke its string
\nbut he wasn\u2019t shy to sing,
\nwhether in a tavern beerful
\nor the wood where shadows cling.<\/p>\n

And we know a hobbit\u2019s song
\nmakes his tall friends sing along
\nand even wood-elf Caranthir pull
\nmerry jigs to join the throng!<\/p>\n

Now a homely wolf named Draug
\nwith a voice just like a frog
\nand a belly that was near-full
\nheard the hobbit in the fog.<\/p>\n

“Singing’s fine,” said ugly Draug,
\n“when it’s wolves out in the fog,
\nand when manly men are tearful
\neven by a burning log.<\/p>\n

“But a hobbit-voice that’s brave
\nor that\u2019s laughing like a knave
\nmakes a wolf a little fearful
\nwhen he’s far from mother’s cave.”<\/p>\n

Then old Draugurth gave the chase
\nbut the hobbit left no trace.
\nThough that Wolf-king smelt a snoutful
\nhappy Falco sang apace!<\/p>\n

Well, the folk of Woodmen Hall
\nheard Wolf-king Draugurth’s call
\nand they set out grim and wrathful
\nunder Mirkwood, dark and tall.<\/p>\n

Falco strode to battle’s din
\nstanding under elf and men,
\nand although the smell was dreadful
\nbraved wolf jaws to save his friends.<\/p>\n

In a rainy Mirkwood glade
\nthe Wolf-king’s plans were all put paid.
\nThough Falco was half a mouthful
\nDraugurth died on elven blade!<\/p>\n

So here’s the lesson we’ll sing loud
\nto any wolf who won’t be cowed:
\nNever close your teeth around
