Since several books, most notably Marc Scott Zicree\u2019s exhaustive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Twilight-Zone-Companion-Scott-Zicree\/dp\/1879505096\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;amp;s=books&amp;amp;qid=1233702717&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">The Twilight Zone Companion<\/span><\/a>, have explored the entire run, Brode decided to take a different approach. \u201cI wanted to do a book where I only focused on the great ones and put the other ones aside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not merely a puff piece, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone<\/span> portrays a complex view of the famed auteur. Brode is the author of more than 30 books, and this delicate balance is central to his body of work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to show in all my books, beginning with Shakespeare \u2014 even going back to Sophocles \u2014 to Spielberg today with Disney and Rod Serling in-between, the people I consider the great artists, popular entertainers, the ones who reached the masses \u2014 they are the ones who have a very balanced view,\u201d says Brode. \u201cTheir politics are not easy. The artists who most move the masses are the ones who have that Yin\/Yang between progressivism and traditionalism.
