This set of the big and small and odd of comicdom offers many gems. Deciding that I really should share some of these largely forgotten and sometime rare pieces, I&#8217;m taking you through a tour of the more interesting selections.<\/p>\n<p>Now for a more mainstream selection.  In the seventies and eighties, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digestcomics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">digest-sized comics<\/a> were all the rage.  These 4.75 in. x 6.5 in. perfect bound collections usually contained minuscule, often poorly reproduced reprints.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonopedia.com\/goldkey.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Gold Key<\/a> with its extensive library of licensed properties was an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.povonline.com\/notes\/Notes062303.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">early adopter<\/a> of the format.<\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\">Click on images for full sized versions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/DAJ8dkTgG0LPa1WfYIyw8g?feat=directlink\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/188320771149943c8546818.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Golden Comics Digest<\/span> No. 9 (1970) and No. 48 (1976)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nBeginning in 1970, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series.lasso?seriesid=12430\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Golden Comics Digest<\/span><\/a> ran for 48 issues concluding with a volume of Lone Ranger, Tonto, and Silver stories.  <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Golden Comics Digest<\/span> No. 9 featured tales of Tarzan, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Korak_(character)\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Korak<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonopedia.com\/brospear.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Brothers of the Spear<\/a>.  This particular collection included the complete <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lambiek.net\/artists\/m\/manning_r.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Russ Manning<\/a> adaptation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.erblist.com\/erblist\/tzoparsum.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar<\/span><\/a>.  Manning also contributed to the volume&#8217;s other offerings. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/Tk9TGwcHmbC5iTv49LEGCQ?feat=directlink\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/149368600149944ddc89f7b.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\">From <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar<\/span> by Russ Manning<br \/>\n (<span style=\"font-style: italic\">Golden Comics Digest<\/span> No. 9, 1970)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nOther issues of the <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Golden Comics Digest<\/span> focused on Gold Key&#8217;s various cartoon licenses, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonopedia.com\/lulu.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Little Lulu<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonopedia.com\/turok.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Turok<\/a>, and others.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/6yHl1L3HPf1OWr2PNJJyaw?feat=directlink\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/172706014449943ca415bb6.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Mystery Comics Digest<\/span> No. 6 (1972) and No. 23 (1975)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Running for only 26 issues between 1972-1975, Gold Key&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comics.org\/series.lasso?seriesid=2071\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Mystery Comics Digest<\/span><\/a> reprinted many excellent stories from their mystery\/suspense\/fantasy\/science fiction anthologies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toonopedia.com\/believit.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Ripley&#8217;s Believe or Not<\/span><\/a>, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">The Twilight Zone<\/span>, and <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery<\/span> in a three issue rotating schedule.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/EyQE_gICypxaVSHjag4j8Q?feat=directlink\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/199947515349944de788c23.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\">From &quot;The Shield of Medusa&quot; (<span style=\"font-style: italic\">Mystery Comics Digest<\/span> No. 6, 1972)<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While &quot;researching&quot; a recent Nexus Graphica, I had reason to look through my collection of Comics Of Unusual Size.
