I<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\">n more recent times, a special committee, organized by Moorcock, determines the winner, typically for excellence in humorous writing.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\"> The five hundred guinea prize is given with the following conditions: The entire award must be spent \u201cin a week to a fortnight\u201d and the recipient must have nothing to show for it. Most winners use the money for a big night or a foreign vacation. The judge wondered\u00a0how he managed to go through so much without having a thing to show for it. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\">You know how it is, your honour \u2011\u2011 two hundred or two thousand \u2011\u2011 it always lasts a week to a fortnight. You can spend a couple of hundred easy just going around the supermarket.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\">Past\u00a0winners have included\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frednormandale.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fred Normandale<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.steveaylett.com\/pages\/index2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Aylett<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicholas_Lezard\" target=\"_blank\">Nicholas Lezard<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_Waldrop\" target=\"_blank\">Howard Waldrop<\/a> (the only American so honored).\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif\">The memorial cup is just that.
