According to director Nash: \u201cReally, it&#8217;s a dog love story with a bunch of humans added around it. I love dogs. Joel does, too. In the first draft he wrote, the dog love story was in the film. Many people want us to cut it out, [but] it&#8217;s such an important part of the film. I added more [of the dog story] in than there was originally. It&#8217;s definitely satisfying to see how well it worked.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><span class=\"postbody\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/15110316814bc7bca13a9b4.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<table width=\"90%\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tr>\n<td><span class=\"genmed\"><b>Quote:<\/b><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"quote\">Nash&#8217;s award-winning short film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Zdj9vMH4BfQ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">\u201cSpider\u201d<\/a> accompanies \u201cThe Square\u201d on its American tour. At first glance, the disturbingly humorous short appears to be an unusual choice to open a very serious feature. \u201cI found \u2018The Square\u2019 always played better when \u2018Spider\u2019 played in front of it. Because \u2018The Square\u2019 is played so straight, it gave a chance to view my sense of humor, how dark it was, and let [viewers] know it was okay to laugh at a lot that happens during \u2018The Square.\u2019 It&#8217;s supposed to be ironic.
