Based on the popular video game and set in medieval Persia, the movie \u201cPrince of Persia: The Sands of Time\u201d stars exactly zero Persian actors and almost no olive- or brown-skinned ones. It\u2019s akin to producing an African history only with white men in blackface; producer Jerry Bruckheimer (\u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d franchise, \u201cKing Arthur\u201d) clearly cares more about mindless action than making even a feeble attempt at social relevance.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

Despite the obsolete casting strategy, the screenplay, by Boaz Yakin and Doug Miro &amp; Carlo Bernard from Jordan Mechner’s story, manages a surprisingly topical tone. The raid of Alamut reflects the Bush administration’s rationale for the invasion of Iraq, right down to the search for WMDs, and Amar’s anti-taxation, anti-authority monologue could have sprung directly from Tea Party rhetoric.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n
