As part of my missives, I also recounted what I was currently reading. Perhaps the most mentioned aspect of the newsletter appeared under this heading: <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">And since what I&#8217;m <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsite.com\/vault\/geeks159.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">reading in the bathroom<\/a> fascinates many of you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>With the advent of the Geek Curmudgeon blog, the newsletter became redundant and so I let it fall by the wayside, but what books are currently in my bathroom continues to fascinate, so I&#8217;ve decided to resurrect that part of the newsletter under the heading of &quot;Readings From the Throne Room&quot; as a regular monthly feature here at The Geek Curmudgeon. <\/p>\n<p>Without further ado, here&#8217;s the current reading contents in my bathroom: <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AX-1-Collection-Alternative-Manga\/dp\/1603090428\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282667463&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">AX Volume 1: A Collection of Alternative Manga<\/span><\/a> Edited by Sean Michael Wilson<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This 400 page collection of alternative Japanese comic book stories represents the nearly ideal bathroom reading experience. Short stories that can be read in one sitting packaged within a paperback.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Ax<\/span> reprints the stories in the traditional Japanese manner from right to left. This has become the norm for translated manga. Beggars the question though, are English-language comics that are translated into Japanese presented from left to right?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/reader\/1603090428\/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/611vLPwc8xL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Revolver-Matt-Kindt\/dp\/1401222412\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282667863&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Revolver<\/span><\/a> by Matt Kindt<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The latest graphic novel from the creator of the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Super-Spy-Matt-Kindt\/dp\/1891830961\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282667995&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Super Spy<\/span><\/a> recounts the flip-flopping worlds&#8211;one a post apocalyptic nightmare, the other an idealistic reality&#8211;of the unhappy Sam. Halfway through this clever exploration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51MvPaeXcXL._SL500_AA300_.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Double-Play-Robert-B-Parker\/dp\/0425199630\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282668232&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Double Play<\/span><\/a> by Robert Parker<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So far I&#8217;m mostly reading <span style=\"font-style: italic\">at<\/span> this baseball novel, waiting for it to engage my full attention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/reader\/0425199630\/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51E8B3PR4VL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Parker-Hunter-Richard-Starks\/dp\/1600104932\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282668537&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Parker: The Hunter<\/span><\/a> Adaptated by Darwyn Cooke from the novel by Richard Stark<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Something weird and unexpected happened over the past month. Brandy, who generally does not like her fiction &quot;hard,&quot; discovered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaldwestlake.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Donald Westlake<\/a>. It started when she picked up Westlake&#8217;s final novel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Memory-Hard-Crime-Donald-Westlake\/dp\/0843963751\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282668844&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Memory<\/span><\/a> off my best side table. She loved it and asked if I had more.  In the last month she&#8217;s read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hard-Case-Crime-Donald-Westlake\/dp\/0843953578\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282668922&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">361<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Cutie-Donald-E-Westlake\/dp\/0843961147\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282669243&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">The Cutie<\/span><\/a>, and most astoundingly the classic Richard Stark <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hunter-Parker-Novel-Novels\/dp\/0226770990\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;amp;ie=UTF8&amp;amp;qid=1282669318&amp;amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">The Hunter<\/span><\/a>. She loved them all and decided she wanted to read the sensational Cooke adaptation of the first Parker. And that&#8217;s how it ended up in our bathroom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/reader\/1600104932\/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51ze8EhNS-L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nAmidst the issues of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Wired<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalfloss.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Mental Floss<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msfocus.org\/magazines-newsletters.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">MSFocus<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalmssociety.org\/multimedia-library\/momentum-magazine\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Momentum<\/span><\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.movingpicturesmagazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Moving Pictures<\/span><\/a>, lies the Fall\/Winter 2010 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utexas.edu\/utpress\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">University of Texas Press<\/a> catalog.
