That doesn\u2019t mean that the anthology isn\u2019t fun, though.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&lt;snip&gt;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Big Names of the loosely defined school\u00a0of Texas SF \u2013 Bruce Sterling, Howard Waldrop,\u00a0Steven Utley, Lisa Tuttle, Lewis Shiner \u2013 aren\u2019t\u00a0represented here with fiction (Sterling provides\u00a0an introduction), but the writers who are here\u00a0do a decent job of delivering that difficult-to-classify stuff typical of the Texas School of SF,\u00a0somewhere between gonzo fantasy and horror in\u00a0tone with occasional touches of cyberpunk, that\u00a0was once called \u2018\u2018outlaw fantasy,\u2019\u2019 or occasionally \u2018\u2018cowpunk.\u2019\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Not including the &#8220;Big Names&#8221; was very a purposeful decision. One of the rules of the volume was that the writers needed to currently be living in Texas. Of all he mentioned, only Waldrop currently lives here.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The most enjoyable story here\u00a0is probably Mark Finn\u2019s \u2018\u2018Take a Left at the\u00a0Cretaceous\u2019\u2019, in which Good Ole Boy long-distance truckers tangle with dinosaurs, but there\u2019s\u00a0other fun stuff as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dozois&#8217; other fun stuff included stories by Lawrence Person, Aaron Allston, Derek Austin Johnson, Chris N.
