Porter<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nDisappointingly, the legendary <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Golden\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Michael Golden<\/a> garnered little attention. It was particularly glaring considering across the aisle hundreds waited for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joemadfan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Joe Madureira<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/16970389334ce005083c53c.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Art by Michael Golden<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nI spent a thoroughly entertaining lunch with <a href=\"http:\/\/chewcomic.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Chew<\/span><\/a> artist <a href=\"http:\/\/robguillory.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Rob Guillory<\/a>. We discussed the origins of the popular title, his career, working with John Layman, and our mutual respect for Image Comics PR and Marketing Coordinator Betsy Gomez. <\/p>\n<p>Before lunch while waiting for Guillory to finish talking with some of his many fans, I noticed the artwork <a href=\"http:\/\/kodychamberlain.com\/c\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;amp;task=view&amp;amp;id=91&amp;amp;Itemid=67\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Kody Chamberlain<\/a>. Set up on the table next to Guillory, his stark, realistic work created quite a contrast to his neighbor&#8217;s cartoony-style. Chamberlain&#8217;s beautifully rendered comic <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Sweets<\/span> details a New Orleans crime story in the days leading up to Katrina.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3352\/4614683541_d9e9242486.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Art by Kody Chamberlain<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nThough I appreciated the pavilion aspect, rather than being buried in some dank room somewhere, of the gaming happenings, it was dominated by that symbol of 1990s avarice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/463\/magic-the-gathering\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Magic: The Gathering<\/span><\/a>. What about the more modern, egalitarian card game <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/36218\/dominion\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Dominion<\/span><\/a>? Or the excellent sci-fi board game tie-in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/37111\/battlestar-galactica\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Battlestar Galactica<\/span><\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cf.geekdo-images.com\/images\/pic354500_md.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nI stopped and chatted with artist <a href=\"http:\/\/paulmaybury.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">Paul Maybury<\/a> (whose recent works can be seen in <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Strange Tales II<\/span> #2) at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staple-austin.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\">STAPLE!<\/a> booth.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Click on image to enlarge<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4045\/5145496829_48ee9f3b1b_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"postlink\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.revolutionsf.com\/bb\/weblogs\/upload\/16\/7320731224ce010b256a29.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 9px;line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Page from Paul Maybury&#8217;s story in <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Strange Tales II<\/span> #2<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nAll-in-all, another fun, albeit tiring day. This show is proving to be infinitely more fun than the last Wizard World Texas I attended. <\/p>\n<p>My Sunday visit will probably prove to be a short one.
