Somebody we never heard of is writing a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. And it's not Joss Whedon (we've heard of him.) The news put the Internet in full spazz.
Joss Whedon weighed in on this semi-news, in a smarty-pants manner right here.
That's the only news. Just that someone is writing a script. No director. No actors. No Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The latest news is about the writer, Whit Anderson, who has never written anything before, according to her IMDB entry. It says she is an actress.
She approached producer Scott Rudin with her vague idea. That led to the vague press release.
She said she is "fighting through" the script.
Incomplete work is hilarious! I would think she would get a rough draft done before they broke the Internet with this press release, but clearly I am not a Hollywood producer.
The WB, who own Buffy stuff, announced they wanted to duck Whedon and do their own Buffy a year and a half ago. That was before Whedon was the director of The Avengers.
We at RevolutionSF registered our bitter mocking of the idea then, right here.
Anderson said, "While this is not your high school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."
That sounds exactly like seasons of the TV show that Whedon and his people already wrote.
Whedon so doesn't need this right now. If he gets distracted by Buffy stuff, he'll get fired from Avengers and we will all be sad.
Congratulations to Whit Anderson for convincing this producer to let her be the writer of this movie. Did she have him at gunpoint when they wrote the press release?
How did this happen? I know lots of big fans of Buffy who have never written or acted in anything, and none of them are writing her new movie.
