Actor and musician Andy Hallett died.
He played Lorne, the lounge-singing demon on Angel. Hallett was 33.
Lorne was the funniest character on Angel, which always needed lightening up. Lorne was a walking incarnation of Joss Whedon's style: crammed with smartassery, pop culture references, and music.
Deanna Toxopeus: "Lorne was the humanizing presence in Angel. He was the heart of the show, especially after Fred died. You saw that in the last episode as he agreed to do one last, horrible thing for Angel, and then they were done. The man had talent dripping from his fingers."
The high point of Lorne's character was the multi-part episodes where lounge-singer Lorne returned to his sword & sorcery homeworld. The Pylea episodes included Joss Whedon doing the Dance of Joy.
Hallett sang in brief scenes "I Will Survive" and "Lady Marmalade" in a full-stage dance number. That's not the kind of thing you expect in a dramatic show, which made it even more fun.
