Superhero Movie Newsblast retrieves what nuggets of actual news exist from the vortexes of misinformation that are mainstream news stories about superhero movies.

Youngblood: Movie Development Deal Financing Is EXTREME!!!!

Some financier made a movie development deal for Brett Ratner, the auteur of the third X-movie, X-Men: The Last Stand, to direct Youngblood the early 1990s Image comic by Rob Liefeld. It

Youngblood was huge when it came out, because everyone liked terrible art and writing back then. Then it put out about 4 issues in the next 15 years.

A development deal is about 500 steps away from a movie being physically made. But the best part of the story is when Ratner says, "Most of the great graphic novels are gone." Preach! And then he talks about "tentpole potential," which makes me giggle.

Powers Will Be TV Series, Not Movie, But Might Not Be Cancelled Immediately

On the other hand, a superhero comic book series that is written well and has appeared more than 4 times is Powers. It's a police procedural where the cops investigate super-powered crimes. Now Powers creator Brian Bendis is working on writing it himself. He says it's in "active development" for a series on FX, the channel that had The Shield. Good place for it. Less likely to be cancelled immediately. Can say naughty words.

DC Comics Movie Slapass Update: Green Lantern, Jonah Hex

They're trying to get the director of Casino Royale to direct Green Lantern. I want to see a Green Lantern movie so intently that I will take this news as a positive, but the only good part is that we have proof Martin Campbell really exists and does work in the movie business. Also, Jack Black's name is mentioned nowhere in the story. (He was going to do a Green Lantern comedy movie, and that idea made us crazy.)

Jonah Hex films in April with Josh Brolin as the DC Comics gunfighter. They set a real date to start filming a DC Comics movie. That's like intentionally walking under a ladder. And then, pushing the ladder over and standing under it while it falls on you.

RevolutionSF's Joe Crowe would have been a test pilot, except for he gets nervous about tests and pilots.

What number appears here?

It's nice to see that DC is expanding their live-action movie library beyond their two overused star heroes.
