Sci-Fi Hall of Lame: Tuvok

January 24, 2008

The Hall of Lame is like a lamasery or monastery, but not for llamas or monkeys. It is a Lameassery, for here we besmirch sci-fi's most besmirchable.

Tuvok

I used to like Tuvok, the black Vulcan, when he was on Super Friends.

Wait a minute! Tuvok isn't Black Vulcan! Can Tuvok wear short pants? No. Can he throw lightning bolts? No. Can he stand and look bored, as if he were unskillfully animated? Yes. Yes, he can.

The Voyager crewman is long-lived, as Vulcans are wont to be. So in his Next Gen-era Starfleet career, he says he served on the original Excelsior with Sulu. He wistfully, although Vulcans are not known for wistfulness, with the lack of emotions and all, says something like, "It was an honor to have known him."

Tuvok did not know him. Voyager attempted to make Tuvok cool by saying he hung out with people who were cool. We do not care for it, and we shan't stand for it.

I swear when I read "Tuvok" I was thinking, "Son of Stone." That means I've nearly forgotten Tuvok. Which is a good thing.

I remember 'The Car'. It was good. Watching it 15 yrs. later...uh, hmm. It did, however, inspire a cool video game for it's time. And Joe: 1. "Extreme" has been used up. It no longer has the same punch. Try "Ultramega-O.K.". 2.Shaq's "performance" should not reflect poorly on Steel. As far as the Supe replacements, Steel is the real deal. I know this because I worked in a long running comic book store and witnessed the death and rebirth out of the box. Coincidentally the store folded in '94. 3.Black Vulcan was just a watered down version of Black Lightning. BL just wasn't Superfriend friendly enough. I think BL will eventually be revealed as the true father of Static Shock. Just tossing that out for free. Speaking of Black Vulcan/Tuvok, can BV perform the Vulcan Nerve Pinch? I think not.

Did you ever see a movie from the 1977- called The Car? with James Brolin,RG Armstrong and a few other semi well know actors, it's about a possessed Lincoln Mark III. IT really ain that bad, at least as not bad- as a movie about a possessed car can be- not bad!
