This is old news out on the Internets, but Uwe Boll is a director of apparently-crappy video game movie adaptations like BloodRayne and Alone in the Dark. He challenged his critics to box him. And they did, and he beat them up.
Of course, you can see the pummelings on YouTube, links to some of which are included on our message boards.
Our own Gary Mitchel corresponded with Boll, but apparently Boll's imposed weight limit kept Gary out of the running. Or maybe, Boll fears Gary's finishing move, the Avalanche.
The new part to the story, months later, is that Wired magazine did a big feature. One cool part of the thrashing is a writer for Ain't It Cool News was one victim, but he'd never critiqued a Boll movie. He was just there as to represent AICN. The Wired article says star of a future Boll flick Michael Pare hollered "Ain't It Cool News!" during the match to pump (clap) Boll up.
I think I would have been morally defeated right there, to have Eddie from Eddie and the Cruisers cheering against me.
The story also has quotes from the beat-ees, who gushed blood and barf when bashed by the surly German who will direct Dungeon Siege with Burt Reynolds. I can't wait.
A few years ago, we reviewed all of the video game movies up to that point. Step up, Super Mario Bros. director! You want some more?
SomethingAwful.com is quoted in the article saying Boll is "destroying . . . childhoods and fond gaming memories."
But this is how comic book fans felt years ago when they started making movies out of those. And we handled it. It took about 25 years, but the adaptations got better. So video game fans need to wait till about 2021. Until then, cowboy up.
On the other hand, we didn't have directors of those movies beating the living piss out of us.
