Spider-Man Movie Soundtrack Has the Rock and the Roll

Sonicnet.com has reported on the status of the Spider-Man movie soundtrack. The report says they haven't decided on which songs will make the album yet, nor about whether the score or songs will be released on the same soundtrack or as separate CDs. Some kind of release, whatever's on it, is set to appear in stores April 30.

Sum 41 have recorded a live version of "It's What We're All About." Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell, Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, and Saliva's Josey Scott will collaborate on "Hero." Alien Ant Farm will do "Bug Bytes." Default have submitted their single "Blind." Slipknot's Corey Taylor has submitted a song.

And for RevSF readers who were born before 1990, Aerosmith has recorded some songs, which won't be their first Spider-Man appearance: Guitarist Joe Perry did the theme song to Fox's Spider-Man cartoon a few years ago. And an arena-rock super-group called Planet Us composed of former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, and Journey guitarist Neal Schon and drummer Deen Castronovo have recorded two songs.

I don't think they're getting Tom Petty to do "Mary Jane's Last Dance," though. Or even No Doubt to do "Spiderweb." Do I have to think of everything, people?

That Hagar / Journey combo sounds pretty sweet, though. ROCK AND ROLL! WHOOOOOOOOOO! Ahem, sorry. WHOOOOOOOOOOO!
